And hopefully, if you're reading this with a similiar issue this will help.
If you have a 1988 Acura w/ p.s., a/c and need to do the alternator, you must remove all the wiring, which is difficult but can be done in place, then remove the mounting bolts etc. Before that though, I did find it necessary to remove the entire drivers' side axle, a chore but necessary, plus you must remove the mounting bracket itself which is only 2 14mm bolts.
Now you can get the alternator out thru the opening created by removing the axle, and it will come out in between the oil-pan and the drivers side control arm, but I found it necessary to get a 2x2 wood approx 3 feet long in there first, and pryed the whole motor forward enough (w/o loosening the mounts) to wiggle and finagle the alternator out thru that opening. Hey if you want to remove the intermediary driveshaft go for it, and take it out the bottom, I just didn't feel like dealing with the dealers to get the seals etc. for that, plus there was nothing I could find in the manual about it.
Or you could goto the dealer and spend 600 bucks on labor only.... I got mine out in 4 hours, but next time (which there won't be heehee) probably only a couple hours.
It can be done, I did it, there is a way. Email me if you need some help with it...(I've read other people online spending days and not getting it out, but they tried it without removing the driveshaft. Can't do it)
Mark.
