Trev,

Basically, that code means that your three way catalyst (TWC) is not operating as efficiently as the computer feels it should. The shop manual diagnosis ends with either "it is an intermittent failure, system is OK at this time", or "Replace the TWC". This assumes no other fault codes like P0137 or P0141.

If you're really driving the car hard, you're going to get this code more often. The reason is that the TWC can "convert" only a set amount of exhaust emissions, and if you are doing a lot of hard accelerating and wide open throttle driving, the unburned fuel can overwhelm the catalyst, and the the computer doesn't feel the TWC is working as well as it should (based on the oxygen levels up and downstream of the TWC based on the O2 sensors. Remember the old sulfur smell after you've driven a car hard?

If you haven't driven it hard prior to the light coming on, then the TWC may be damaged or contaminated, and on the edge of needing replacement....hope this helps..glen
