Hi,
Thanks for the reply Dave. I agree it's not a good idea to put too much money (if at all) on a car this old; but since it's in such good shape all around, and the engine is still running strong (hello, it's a honda) in fact my cousin did an awesome paint job, just uploaded a picture of it in my homepage:
http://members.aol.com/bighunk/vroomvroom.html
(scroll to the bottom of the page as the pictures are in chronological order...)
It's also the only car I can afford until the winter of 2005 when I finish school.
As far as the sputtering it was doing, while at my cousin's body shop, (I pretty much hung out there during the time it was getting worked on), I discovered one of the little vacuum hoses wasn't plugged into (wherever it is that it's supposed to be plugged to), so after plugging it back in, the idle is noticeably smoother, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ran perfectly next week after I take it to get a tune up.
And as far as the transmission, to be honest it feels/sounds/shifts identical to the '98 Honda Civic I previously owned. I bought that one brand new in '99. So although '85-'90 accord trannys may not be the best ones honda came out with, other than this little "issue" it has, it doesn't seem like a replacement would be necesary...
Also, I did notice one thing about it not downshifting after coming to a complete stop:
If I get a red light, as I'm braking, if I lightly depress the accelerator right before the car comes to a complete stop, I hear/feel the engine rev lightly, therefore successfully downshifting like it's supposed to. And it will do this every time as long as I apply the brakes (with my left foot) while giving it a little gas right before stopping. Any ideas?
-Sergio.
PS: Oh and, Dave - you wrote there is a CHANCE that the problem can be fixed without removing the trans from the car by taking it to the dealer. What possible "fix" are you referring to? Thanks again.
