Hi Sara;

I'm not sure if I'm the Mike you're referring to, but I'll offer a few comments. Others will chime in, too...

What does your coolant temperature gauge indicate during driving conditions?

On my Accord, it starts at the bottom (Cold mark) when the engine is cold, and slowly moves up as the engine is warming up. When the engine has warmed up to normal operating temperature, the needle should stay just a little over half way. If it continues to rise to the Hot mark, then there is a problem.

Lets make sure you have a problem first. Keep an eye on the Coolant Temp Gauge while you drive, and note its indication.

As far as the "burning smell" you mentioned...
Anti-freeze (coolant) has a distinctive odor. I wouldn't call it a "burning" odor.

Where do you smell this odor? In the car or outside? Coolant actually comes in to the car to the heater core, but only when your temperature control knob is turned toward the red.

Check your coolant reservoir. Follow the hose at the radiator filler neck to the reservoir. Is the coolant at the proper level? There is a line on the side.

If it is coolant you are smelling, even the slightest leak can cause an odor, so look all around the radiator, hoses, under the car, etc. and look for any sign of green coolant that might be leaking.

Any additional info will be helpful in determining if you have a problem or not.

Hope this helps...

Mike
