Take it somwewhere else and get an estimate. That seems excessively high for parts and labor. Aftermarket parts are available. I was wrong earlier, your year does have upper ball joints, and they are integral with the upper control arm.

Do you know anyone who could recommend a shop? I'd see if I can find a shop that has a good reputation, and would be willing to install used parts from a salvage yard. You could save a lot, and if the junked vehicle is not damaged in the front, you'll probably be able to get quite a lot of life out of the car still.....again, I'd get another estimate from a shop - I think they're taking you for a ride....glen
