I am not sure about tax deductions, they vary from state to state. I was able to deduct my own expenses because it was job improvement. Maybe other states do offer tax deductions for high school students. It might be worth the inquiry, though.

Collect receipts anyways. For two reasons: 1) You will know where the money goes and can make informed judgements for the following year. For instance, we did not sign up for one of the online correspondence classes. We are finding out that handing in lesson plans via mail, not email, can get expensive with postage. 2) My daughter is able to get a pre-tax deduction through my husband's employer medical reimbursement account. Her yoga classes for health reasons also worked for one of her physical education units. We needed to get the doctor to write a letter but that is not a problem because she was the one who suggested/ordered the therapy.
