Subject: Single working parent

My neighbor is thinking about homeschooling. She is a single parent, working at a job that requires working nights. She also has a mother is is often sick and she (my neighbor) is called on to take care of her younger siblings, her mother and her daughter. All of this has made it hard for her daughter last year in Kindegarten. The little girl missed a lot of school and has to do summer school. My neighbor does not have a lot experience in the job market, so getting another job is hard. I offered to tutor her daughter in reading, but they are hardly home for more than a couple of days at a time. (The reason that homeschooling might work if she can transport and stick to it.)

Has anyone else been in a simular situation (single working parent) and been able to successfully homeschool? Does anyone have any tips that may help? Or should she try to work harder at getting her daughter to school (they overslept a good bit due to the late working hours.) I do not homeschool (other than preschool) but I know that it takes a lot of work and I not certain that my neighber understands what she would be committing to if she homeschools.

Thanks for any and all advise!
