I have some friends (husband and wife) who are going to be missionaries in Mexico for 2 years. They have 2 daughters, one in middle school and one in high school. They leave in January, but have given the girls the choice to finish the school year in NC, or go ahead in January ( the mother would stay with them if they chose to stay).

They haven't decided if they'll keep their home or not.

Does anyone know (or have a contact who would know) how they would go about registering as homeschoolers? Do they have a choice as to how they register? Are there any ramifications for homeschooling out of the state/country versus following the more typical rules of registering your homeschool here?
