Cardiff (not the University of Wales Institute-Cardiff?) or Bristol (not West of England-Bristol?) for psychology, right? Hmmmm...... Aren't they like across that bay on the south side of Wales from each other?

Well, with Cardiff you would always be explaining why the name was actually Prifysgol Caerdydd. But the School of Psychology has a Top 5*A rating (RAE 2001), guess that Grade 5 ranking really means something good. There is a rather impressive page concerning the Psychological Research being conducted within their Department.

Well, of course you should go to Cardiff, they have a WebCam from the 12th floor of the School of Psychology.

According to their own WebPage where they toot their own horn...

The School of Psychology at Cardiff is one of the largest departments of psychology in the United Kingdom. As of January 2002 it had 38 full-time teaching staff - including 11 professors - alongside some 40 full-time research staff, and nearly 60 research students. The School was awarded teaching "excellence" status (deemed "worthy of recognition and reward"), following the latest teaching quality assessment exercise carried out by the Higher Education Funding Council of Wales (HEFCW). Nationally the School was placed among the very top departments of psychology that achieved the top 5*A rating in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise conducted by the Universities Higher Education Funding Council - indeed it topped the league of all UK psychology departments in the Times Higher Education Supplement!

So go for it, I say!!!

=================================

But then there is the University of Bristol. They have a Division of Psychiatry, a Psycho-Pharmacology Unit, and a Department of Psychology (Experimental). Those first two links are evidently under-construction.

The Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol also toots its own horn thusly.....

The Department of Experimental Psychology aims for excellence in teaching and research. In the recent government review of our teaching we attained 23 out of 24, indicating excellence in teaching. In the national Research Assessment Exercise 2001 we attained the highest possible score of 5*A in acknowledgment of the strength, depth and international quality of our research. Our mission is to train undergraduates and postgraduates in the scientific understanding of the human mind and we do so in a department in which teaching is research led. Our programs are delivered by some of the leaders in the field and by a lively group of brilliant young lecturers.

No 12 story monolith for them they look to be in an older 2-story building. Looks like they have a fewer number of professors who have Doctorates (19?) as Cardiff (23). And those professors have many varied interests.

----------------------------------------------------
Just a cursory look on my part, but I would say that Cardiff is the more 'high-powered' Psycology Department.

I wasn't expecting research into it on your part! *smooches* thanks for that :-)

I will let you know what i decide, and cardiff was the more appealing one anyway. but still, it can all change when the sun rises!

.......that is why I put the image in my post. I noticed that right about midnight, Cardiff time, they turned out the lights on the suspension bridge in the background.

Often this camera doesn't show the sky but is centered on sites that it can see around the town of Terre Haute, which is about 50 miles north of me. I went to uni in Terre Haute at Indiana State University (got my BS degree in Geology and Mathematics). If the picture doesn't come through, Rachel, try this URL:

If there is a river in the WebCam pic above, that river is the Wabash that flows past and sometimes over my farm! The WebCam below is from Evansville, Indiana, which is 60 miles south of me. Kinda murky, as all WebCams are, and some clouds are now moving in on us. The River there is the Ohio, look long enough and you might catch some barge traffic or even some old-style paddlewheel riverboats like the Belle of Louisville or the Delta Queen pass by.
