So I just found out that Joss is again going to be at the San Diego Comic Convention this year. It's next weekend. I'm going to go.

What message should I give him for you?

I want my humor, horror, and monster bashing back. And for the love of all that is holy, NO Dawn the vampire slayer. Bring back the key!

Have fun Glory, let us know what happens.

:-)

Oh, that's right you were off making that Lightning Bug show for Fox, what was I thinking.

[> Comic convention -- Seril, 20:26:14 07/28/02 Sun [1]

Comic convention? I want to go. Too bad it is kind of far of a drive for me. I dont think I could talk my boss into sending me there. They pay for us to travel, but it is travel to our projects... I don't have any projects in that area...

Oh well... I'll have to come up with something very clever in order to get across the country to goto a comic convention...

I highly recommend it. People from all over fly in for it and after going to last year's, I can see why. It stretches over 3-4 days, has lots of interesting guests and such. Very worth the while for serious collectors and whatnot. I just feel lucky that I live close enough to San Diego that I can drive down there for the day. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be going.

But it's a lot of fun. If you could work it into vacation plans or something, you should definitely go some year. And then swing up to LA on your way back and come visit me! :)

Well, the closest I will be anytime soon is Oregon. But that is for work and I dont think they want me driving all over the country to go to a comic convention (although I would like to see more of the west coast and mountains while I am there, but we will see) So, I wont be seeing California or Washington while I am there.

[> Well, if you're rude and insulting nobody takes you seriously, so how about this? -- Mon, 10:11:37 07/31/02 Wed [1]

Joss, I've been watching Buffy since season [x], and this has by far been the most disappointing season I've ever seen. I've watched a season that started on some high notes, with a developing friendship and trust between Buffy and Spike, and Willow's seeming hunger for power, degenerate in a sexathon between Buffy and Spike, and an out of the blue addiction to magic for Willow. I wonder if the writers were just bored and therefore tried to come up with as many lame scenarios as possible for B/S sex (come on, NOBODY has sex UNDER a rug on a concrete floor), and simply took the easy way out of a possibly very interesting storyline for Willow - Spellcaster's Anonymous? At least they had the decency to admit it was a stupid name.

This season was filled with jarring inconsistencies and characterizations, a nearly complete absence of Xander and Anya for about five episodes, Spike written as if he had multiple personality disorder instead of "conflicted", Dawn written as a whiny brat with no friends who wants people to take her seriously and yet can't manage to cook food, the most absurd way possible to take a life on BtVS (Tara could have at least been in the kitchen), and Willow's ridiculous addiction to magic which resulted in the most dreadful "Big Bad" confrontation yet. I could go on and on, but I'll spare you the rest of what we fans had to endure.

I've seen a season with nearly no snap and quality of writing that I'm used to seeing from BtVS, and I've seen writers have to explain episodes, which should never have to be done. I've seen storylines change because of fan reaction. For example, the attempted rape scene. I still don't understand the purpose of it except that fans were reacting to positively to B/S, so you had to find a way to make them dislike it. Well, it might have worked if one of your producers hadn't said that's why the scene was added. So, either the B/S storyline was badly managed from the start, or a storyline was changed for no reason except for the fans, which I find to be incredibly frustrating. The integrity of a storyline and characterization is much more important than making sure fan reaction is what you want it to be. Fans aren't stupid. We can tell when the pieces of the puzzle don't fit, and there were far too many of those this season.

And that brings me to my two questions: what exactly were you trying to do with season 6, and what are your plans to remedy the inconsistencies in plot and characterization in season 7?

****

Okay, so that's possbly just my own ranting, but maybe there's something there you can use.

:-.)
