Hi Tom,

if you have one more finger on the right hand you have to use it too.
The basic position requires the thumb for the E,A,D-string,
the i-finger for the G-string, the m-finger for the B-string and the a-finger for the high E-string. The little finger remains free. Now you pluck E,A,D,G,B,E and back B,G,D,A,E. That means p,p,p,i,m,a,m,i,p,p,p and so on,(repeatedly) without moving hand or arm. A useful exercise is to put the striking finger back on the string to stop the sound.(school of Tarrega)
The next would be to buy a good teaching book or better go to a teacher or ask again.
