In reply to: Dare 's message, "Anyone gotten their Rockman exe Axess figs yet?" on 09:45:12 11/07/03 Fri

In a nutshell,

not great.

The Axess figures are bigger than the bandai stuff. Enough that they cannot really be used together. Only about 3/4 inch taller, but volume is increased by about 30% or so (so the heads, when helmeted are much bigger, like a small walnut.)

I think the kits are roughly to scale with the Bandai figures though (I didn't get Rock or Blues, but Metalman is only a touch taller than the Bandai figures, while Gutsman is shorter but broader. I'm not that familar w/ the games so I don't know if the characters are supposed to be significantly bigger than Rockman, or similar in size.) Finish is pretty good, and the springs are freakin strong. Gutsman's fist will seriously knock the crap out of whatever you shoot.

The "action figures" are more kit than figure. I got Gutsoul and Searchsoul.

Figure is packed w/ helmet on, but all other armor parts are on runners. Some are flexible PVC, some hard ABS. The standard hands on Rockman fit very loosely and tend to fall off. In general the armor fit is erratic. Some parts are nice and snug, others fall off rather easily.

Articulation is seriously reduced compared to the previous figures. Gone is the lovely double jointed elbow, side rotating ankles, etc. Back to fairly standard figure articualtion, similar to the Digimon Spirit Evolution armor figures.

Overall feel is cheap. While the previous Bandai figures were solid PVC with firm joints and solid parts, the hollow feel of the ABS armors make them feel more like kit toys than action figures (think back to the old Rockman kit figures, but bigger w/ better paint ops.)

I think some of the cost went into the chip that is included w/ both the kits and figures that can be used w/ the electronic gizmo pet thing.

Too bad, seems almost like Commtech ruining Star Wars, as I'm sure not getting that electronic thingy and would certainly prefer more quality in the actual figures and kits.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer. They're not terrible, just nowhere near the awesomeness of the last Bandai Series...
