Chicago State recruits quite a few kids from the area but area kids do not have a favorable opinion of CSU and simply do not want to go there.

Chicago State must continue to recruit kids who are good enough to make CSU better and the area kids who have those type of basketball skills are normally recruited by other schools.

Having grown up across the street from CSU there is nothing overly attractive about the campus or sports facility. The school is also not rated very high for majors outside of teaching.

CSU has the same problems of many inner city schools that have a commuter reputation. In addition to that just a couple of years ago, CSU was condering dropping from the DI ranks and going back to an NAIA school.

The last thing is simply the perception that CSU is a black school. Many inner city kids coming from public schools do not want to go to a school that is perceived as nothing more than a high school for college aged kids.
