Subject: I Was Actually at Work at the Time...
In reply to: wanderer 's message, "I found your post very interesting" on 14:54:00 03/03/07 Sat

...And I didn't include all of my thoughts on the subject, though.

"...but I'm wondering what your basis is for them? It doesn't appear to me that the foundation of your opinions on the living prophets is FROM the living prophets themselves who have explained what it means to have revelation in our day."

"Kellen, the prophet has the "right" to speak on ANY SUBJECT or SITUATION. I'm not sure where you got the impression that there were topics which they do not have "authority" to speak upon! Surely not from them!"

The principles I was referring to are actually pretty basic ones. If I ask a member of the church whether or not they have face cards in the house, many will say "no." If I ask why, they will say, "Because the Prophet told us not to have them." When did the leader of the church replace the Holy Ghost? I must have fallen asleep during that General Conference talk... To not do something because the leader of the church tells you to not do it is a very commendable act! It's like living the Law of Moses... It's a pretty good law! But it's not the Doctrine of Christ.

Another good example would be the clothing that girls (and some guys, too...) where around BYU. 98% of it is in total compliance with the honor code. The shirt may have sleeves... But then again, they may only be an inch and a half in legnth. The pants may reach the shoes with no problems... But then again, you can still see every private detail.

So anyways, I certainly wasn't saying there are some topics the leaders of the church don't have a right to talk about. I was simply saying that just because they do not talk about the dangers of eating meat at every meal, (health-wise AND Word of Wisdom-wise) doesn't mean we should go ahead and do it. Then again, just because we are commanded not to kill, does not mean there won't be times when the Holy Ghost makes exceptions. (1Nephi-Laban)

When it comes down to the issue of this thread, The War in Iraq and how the leaders of the church feel on the subject, these principles can also be applied. There are SOOOOOOOO many things in Hinckley's talk and SOOOOOOOO many things NOT in his talk. I'm not even going to get into them! ... Which brings me back to my point of all being prophets and prophetesses.

Thank you for the compliments, Wanderer. : ) I hope we can become great friends!

Kellen Nebelski
