I have no doubt this young man has been deeply hurt and scarred.

Speaking for myself, my reading of your post didn't say this to me. You were quick to wonder his outward behavior at home resulted from the company he kept while in Iraq. Plain and simple.

Firstly, that you're a staunch supporter of the military, I would question your assertions in that direction--namely, what's screwed with the military that it recruits such drunken misfits (as you appeared [to me] to imply). Secondly, if the military is recruiting and training well, what sends a person over the edge--free beer in Baghdad?

I also find it rather strange that given one of your statements not too long ago, that we 'shouldn't speak for the military.' you go right ahead and tell me that: "The company he kept included those trained to kill--that they were shooting people dead, watching "the company [he] kept" being among numbers shot dead or blown beyond recognition.'" as if you knew that is what they did.

I did post to wonder that, "no one person speaks for all." I asked that, "Unless or until they arrive here, please let's speak for ourselves and how we perceive their service. No more. Certainly no less."

Sincerely I believed I was doing that very thing, i.e., speaking for myself and how I perceive their service. In the event you are able to say deployment is for the sake of keeping company with clowns making balloon animals in the desert rather than the company of those trained to kill, that those in the heat of things in Iraq are killing and watching others die, I'm a listener.

Debbie
