Subject: individuals can be cruel
In reply to: Deb 's message, "not afraid" on 00:22:02 09/28/06 Thu

Deb, that is...unspeakably cruel and unnecessary for someone to tell your mother that. Why even say anything?

However, and this is the point I am trying to make: When the saints first came to the valley, they donated land for other religions to build their houses of worship. While that doesn't mean an endorsement of that particular religion by the LDS church at the time, it does mean that all are free to worship according to the dictates of their consciences.

Tell the Bishop's wife that Joseph Smith said this in one of his Articles Of Faith:
"We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God and allow all men the same privilege; let them worship how, where or what they may." I don't think Brother Joseph is gonna have heartburn over your mother not accepting his story as a prophet.

He too, was persecuted for what he believed and taught. I lived in Missouri for five years. My ancestors were driven out by mobs because of fear and I just refuse to let another mob tell me what I have to worship and how.

While she was cruel in saying that, it wasn't an orchestrated event with people screaming outside your home
or her being hauled off to some court.

Those tv reporters were forced to join Islam. How was that fair to them, or to their 'new' religion? If they recant, they are fair game.

Not individuals but the collective mob mentality is what I fear. Individuals can and should be told when they are out of line. Mobs either need to be disbanded or met head on.
