Subject: A Deliberate Untruther?
In reply to: Jean 's message, "ok if liar is a bad thing to say how about....." on 09:10:01 03/25/06 Sat

Nah. That still appears (for me) to imply some prescient knowledge of human intent and circumstance, stepping into personal judgment and name-calling.

Since it appears I'm not getting through with the point, let's place it within the context of the Church. Apostle Dallin Oaks knowingly, openly, lied about something that happened behind the scenes. When called on it, exposed, he stated to the press that his was "not a truthful statement." So, is Apostle Oaks a liar?

Maybe that still doesn't help convey what I'm intending, i.e., that it's a very harsh term (IMO) and that none among us, so far as I'm aware, have a crystal know-it-all ball. But if we're to stick to the term as acceptable, let us apply it acroos the board and not only toward those with whom we disagree.

Me, I prefer not using it, wondering there's a benefit of the doubt to be had here and there within numbers of deliberate untruths and not truthful statements.

Does that make me a Republican? :p
