I hear you, Jean. I recently moved to Arizona. After a while, I had my car registered here and got my AZ license, etc... So, now I was required to get AZ insurance. Well, I decide to stop in before work at the insurance office next door. I gave them all of my information and everything and the lady LAUGHED AT ME! ( I was 19, male, delivery driver, etc... EVEN THOUGH I had no tickets or accidents. ) I was stunned. So I asked what was the matter. She asked me, "What were you paying in Pennsylvania?" I said that I was paying $150 some a month and that it was going down just under a hundred in a month or so. She continued to laugh. I asked again and she told me... Your quote came out to be about $345/month. !!!!!!!!! I about had a heart attack! I was worried about how I was going to pay some other stuff at the time and an extra $345/month might as well have been $5,000. Both were unpayable. I just walked out.

I went to another place with much in the same luck. I even called a half dozen places including Geiko and SafeAuto. All were from about $325 to $410 a month. Right then, I decided to take a chance without insurance and start praying like mad! As weeks progressed, the companies I had talked to kept calling back with slightly lower quotes. $305/month, $280/month, $265/month, etc... until it seemed to bottom out at $230/month. I saw that as an answer to prayer, so I decided to go with that deal. A couple days later when I was about to sign up with the $230/month company, I got a call from one I had NEVER called before. The guy told me I could have near full coverage for $190/month. I was so dang excited!!! I went ASAP and signed with that company. Its a good thing I did, too, because I never got another call from companies offering lower quotes.

I think most of you here know this, but Arizona is like the 2nd most expensive state for car insurance. They say its because of all the illegal mexicans driving around without insurance, but I don't buy that one bit. They are the BEST drivers. They rarely ever even come close to the speed limit. Plus, its not just one guy. There's always like a dozen or two in the car to watch the road. lol. I have seen the drivers here ( the white, sober drivers ) and am not at all impressed! You have a 5'0" businesswoman driving a Hummer ( barely seeing over the wheel ) driving 60 in the 45 talking on her cell phone. People don't care that they are driving several tons of a potential killing machine. Plus, so many here drive very expensive cars. Careless people in $50,000 cars, the fear of drivers with no insurance, and a bunch of California 'street racing' wannabes do NOT mesh well for the low-on-cash American.
