Chuck Baldwin--the VP candidate from last yr--introduced a pre-emptive resolution that puts the whole NV question on the back burner for 6 mos. It was a gesture to calm feelings and encourage better dialogue, but I don't think it helped anything, just put off the inevitable.

Bill Shearer--the best statesman this nation has right now, an incredible party leader--resigned from the Nat'l Committee. His daughter Nancy Shearer Spirkoff resigned as Natl Secretary. They'd come under attack for urging restraint, trying to separate religion from politics and being the "moderates". Debbie Hopper--another amazing leader--resigned from being Regional Chairman--her dh is in the last stages of MS and she really doesn't need to deal with this garbage on top of all that.

Now there is an LDS CPer sending emails out to all the Mormons he knows telling them to resign from the CP. He's a county CP chrmn in CA. There are just too many hotheads popping off around here. If you know any LDS in the party, I would encourage you to plead for diplomacy from them, patience, goodwill, etc. Everyone should contact their state and regional leaders and plead for moderation.

Here are the points that I would make:
1)The issue of whether or not NV's CP is in compliance with the Natl platform was resolved last spring at the natl mtg in UT--it was voted that NV's planks and policy are in compliance. At issue now is NV State Chrmn Chris Hanson's remarks. As long as he is speaking as an individual and not representing his state org or its policies, then it doesn't really matter what his thoughts are. We should not be in the business of dictating what an individual things or believes.

2)We need to concentrate our efforts on building state orgs. If the regional chairmen (i.e. Cal Zastrow mostly, but there are others) would spend as much time, energy and passion building state orgs, strengthening state leaders, we would soon be a formidable party. Regardless of the final outcome, this bickering is doing only one thing: sapping our resources and weakening the party at the most basic level.

3)This contention has one source. We claim an allegiance and submission to Christ, yet serve Satan when we continue to feed to contention he authors. This goes for both the LDS and non-LDS segments of the party. (At this point, I am equally disgusted with both factions of this conflict.)

There's a lot more that could be said, but this is the most important. We LDS have just 6 mos to try to mend feelings and pave the way for a peaceful resolution to this. We can't afford to lose more people like the Shearers and Debbie Hopper.
