Deb, support and acceptance has totally changed from years ago. The very values of our society have changed because of the acceptance. No necessarily for good, but in a different manner than you might think.

We've all heard about the 50s even if we don't remember them. In the 50s, everyone knew that 'good girls DON'T.' And if she did, and it was known, it was scandalous. A pregnant single woman would be shunned and generally had to leave town before her pregnancy showed. The child was considered 'illegitimate' and labeled a 'bastard.' Other children were not allowed to play with them.

The values of our society have changed. Today good girls DO (many of them having been taught no better) and all but the most bigoted idiot knows that there is no such thing as an 'illegitimate' child.

The reason I say the changes are not all good... the acceptance is not one of compassion and love for the unwed mother, but rather one of acceptance of the fact that good girls DO. The slippery slope of the sexual revolution has decayed morality to the point that only only do good girls DO, but it doesn't matter at all that good girls DO. A sad change which brings about even more unplanned pregnancies than ever, which spirals into even more abortion than ever.

Even more unwed mothers get back into the education cycle... or remain there as it is more and more acceptable for them to continue high school, and many campuses have classes that include not only their regular high school classes, but also classes on parenting.

No, the problem isn't the acceptance of unwed mothers... it's the acceptance of premarital sexual activity as a
perfectly okay thing to do.
