attend the temple, listen closely to the prophet, and try to find common ground with good people of all faiths. Prepare our children and ourselves for missionary work, stay busy doing what is right, and pray for the leaders and people of the world.
That is all we can do; I don't think we can do more. I certainly don't think that our political leaders have our best interests at heart. However, they will be used; wicked kings and rulers have been used at all times/places.

Politically, I think we're in such a mire that there is little we can do.
We speak as though they care, and I don't believe many of them do. They have their own agenda; they are watching their own interests. It's sad, but I believe it's true, and it isn't inconsistent with prophecy and especially the last days of the Book of Mormon.
President Hinckley stresses acceptances of all faiths so much that I believe we ought to listen. Supporting the exclusion of any people doesn't seem to be in line with what he is saying, however much we may be "told" by "them" (ha, the ubiquitous "them" of political leadership) that those people may pose a threat.* The real threat is in our own lack of knowledge and not living according to gospel principles; it always has been, and it always will be.
So I believe.

*If Heavenly Father wants anyone here in the "promised land", He will see that they get here, anyway; it's all in the Book of Mormon; nobody will come who is not brought by the Hand of the Lord; I assume that includes non-Christians, even Muslims (where is my wink?)
If we were to be very literal about this, we would have to assume that even "foreign" terrorists have not entered this country without the permission of Heaven. That's very literal, but there could be a reason for it. If they are righteous, we embrace them, if we are righteous; if they are not, we may be refined by them. I think the Old Testament uses the term, "shaved".
