First and foremost, I'm in agreement with stan that every one of us is deserving of the decency the photos leave behind. There are better ways to expose any positive aspects of this country's treatment of detainees (and I realize you weren't touting this as the plan, Eppy). A big problem now is that this absolutely [to me] flies in the face of good treatment toward prisoners. Once again, the west demeans another. Hurrah for us, not.

When I heard about the photos being taken and published it bothered me (understatement) for several reasons. One is mentioned above. Another of my issues is for how this helped to further diminish the west in the eyes of other cultures and those already holding us in disdain, with or without good cause.

I'm so sick of this collective mess that I haven't followed to see if this story has been updated in the news. Initially it appeared military personnel is responsible for the access photos. That's another reason it disgusted me--for painting those in service and every one of us with that brush.

I can't talk to what someone was thinking...taking the photos publishing them. Sad stuff, IMO.

Deb
