Hi Steve. My first concert was Journey, back in 82/83. I have always been a Journey/Steve Perry fan and always will be. Every time I hear your song, Open Arms, I think about my first true love. We drifted apart and I haven't seen him or talked to him in over 25 yrs. Everytime, I hear that song I always go back to that time and place in my mind. Please keep singing. My son who is 8, knows every lyric to every song, you have ever sang. I taught him well.Thank you so much

Hello Steve, I have been a long time fan of your singing and of you. You have a voice to die for. There are few people in this world that sing with so much passion, and you are one of them. Unfortunately I have never been to any of your concerts. Then in 1984, when I turned thirty, I got into radio and became a DJ and thought that I would have a chance to go to some concerts, sadly, I was the one who had to work the nights the concerts came to town, or stay at the station doing the live remote. However, I listen to your music all the time. You are a living legend.
Don't ever lose that passion Steve.

I met my true love back in 1999 and we have been back and forth for the last 8 years. We are both still single after all this time and he still calls me and wants to see me whenever he comes to my state. I live in Indiana and he lives in Georgia.
Our song was Open Arms and he always sang it to me.
We have discussed marriage several times, but there has always been something or someone in the way.
Could you please send something special---
to Sammy (msstrode@blue-bird.com) from LuAnn(BrownIzz7943@aol.com) with something to do with the song OPEN ARMS.
Sammy still has the original 33 1/3 albulm.

Steve....I have always dreamed of going to listen to you in person, Journey is comming to Vancouver Washington August 30 2006 to the Fairgrounds at Clark COunty and I am going to be there with my 16 year old daughter , driving up from Portland, Oregon.....I think that my dream would be fulfilled if you were to come to this venue, even if to sing just 1 song....My daughter is now starting to sing in the church choir and in her high school and she is now a big fan of yours just as I have been since I first heard you sing back in the late 1970's. My heart stops every time your on the radio , I just have to sing along no matter where I am. You have been through alot, as have I. In the past 3 1/2 years with the loss of my husband I am trying to raise my daughters the best I can. My 7 year old daughter knows your lyrics. Thanks for your contribution to the world of music, and for all the fans in the next generation and future generations. Your voice is unsurpassed !!!

All the best

Pure Raw Journey once again.. the way they were and the way they were meant to sound... although it would've been cooler to have Mr. Elson oversee the production of this work. Journey Rocked hard being on the road for months and sometimes years at a time. Thank you band! I understand these tapes which were unearthed had to be baked in an oven before quickly transferring them to digital. Thankyou to the person who stored them away in the time capsule. Also kudos to the person who found them... Too bad they won't make it to a Journey museum but the music will. I was wondering what songs and talk the producer left out and if you guys could release that material too.

I'm not making it up. But those were many moons ago and I
would love to see him again. I am the Steve's best fan,
and the silent one and never would I write on these fan
rooms or boards, but today is a special day, and for that
I send this message to Steve, I adore you, and one day I would like to meet you and chat with you and sit down and sing together. I wish you nothing but the best in your time of life, and keep singing....

I am new to Journey and Steve Perry, This album makes me wish I had been there--I wish Steve was still singing and recording. My son, who is with Sony, is helping me with a collection of albums-- his voice is too good to be silent. Outside of grand opera I have never heard such wonderful drama and feeling in one man's voice.

This is my favorite Journey album.

Having never had the pleasure of seeing Journey or Steve in concert live, this CD gives me a vicarious thrill.
The energy and charisma of the band comes shining through every song. And the audience participation - especially in Any Way You Want It - is just wonderful! Makes me wish I had been there!

After the Fall is one of my favorites, and I’ve read it wasn’t done live very often, so it’s a wonderful addition to the CD.

Open Arms was never one of my favorites, but on Live – Steve just personalizes it and makes it his own. His vocals and inflections in his voice on this song blow me away. It made me really listen to the song and come to appreciate it.

It continually amazes me that Steve – and the rest of the band – were actually better live than taped. Usually it is the other way around, since in the studio you can do multiple takes and have a controlled atmosphere. The fact that Steve’s voice is better on stage and in person is just a tribute to his extraordinary gift. To be able to maintain that level – on tour – is unheard of.

It says in the liner notes that these songs were just sitting around and were dubbed right over to the CD. No touch-ups or changes were made –after many years of sitting on a shelf. Just proves why Journey was so popular – the band had an astonishing amount of talent and the music they created will continue to be listened to, and appreciated, for generations.

This is an album you can just close your eyes to and just imagine you were there at those concerts. You are in Houston when Steve says "Houston can you hear me?" and you're in Tokyo when Steve thanks you from the bottom of his heart--(in Japanese)! The guitar work is very strong on every cut. The keyboard may be over powered by Steve's vocals and Steve Smiths drumming but it is not what I noticed when first listening to this album. The first thing that grabbed me was the raw emotion in Steve's voice. On Send Her My Love when Steve says "Journey's on the road again!" You can almost hear the break in his voice--as though he was about to cry. He squeezes a lot of bits into the songs to include the audience and I love that--especially on Wheel in the Sky. "come on sing the song with me!" Those songs were being played so feverishly with so much passion-- like as though the guys were afraid they would never be able to play them again. Steve can carry you away on this one. A great great live album.

Unlike a lot of live albums, the latter of Journey's two live albums, "Journey's Greatest Hits Live," exibits live audio at its best.

The first on this sixteen (16) cut album, "Don't Stop Believin'," is a great opener for an album, whether it be live or not. The keyboards sound OK, but the vocal and guitar are great. The only thing that I like better about the studio track is the pure sound of the piano. Here it sounds weak and diluted.

The second track, "Seperate Ways (Worlds Apart)," is better on this live version than the studio version because of Steve Perry's raw vocals and Neal Schon's "driving" guitar work. The keyboard work is a bit stronger, but still no match for Steve and Neal on this one.

The third track, "After The Fall," is OK. I like the studio version of this (the one I heard on the "Essential" two-disk set), and the only reason I say that is because I feel that the rythmn section is too weak on this despite the fact that the king of soul, Steve Perry's, vocals are up to par. Although, when I heard this album, I heard the live version before I heard the studio version, so initially, I wasn't impressed with this tune. Good guitar from Neal though.

On the fourth track, "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'," I like the blues romp Steve does at the beginning. My mother even loved it, and she cannot stand Journey. Really raw vocals and guitar. The piano on this one sounds awesome, but this tune focuses mainly on Steve Perry's vocals.

On the fifth tune, "Faithfully," the four-bar piano intro. sounds a bit watered down, but there's a bluesy guitar riff with soulful vocals in the first two verses. And for my number one favorite Journey tune, here's another that shows Steve's vocals as the main attraction. I really love his "whoa, ohh ohh ohhs" on this at the end.

On the sixth tune, "Who's Crying Now," Steve's vocals are great, I like Neal's guitar solo, I really like the way Steve sings, "So many stormy nights, so many wrongs or rights, neither could change their headstrong ways...ya know what I'm talkin' about, Houston?" I really love the way he squeezes that Houston line in there; although, Jonathan Cain's piano still sounds diluted. I think it's because of the same keyboard he uses throughout the 1981 Houston show.

On track seven, "Anyway You Want It," Steve's vocals and audience participation are both raw, and Neal has a great guitar solo on this one. I also love the way Steve says, "Houston, can you hear me?" at the end, singing that line with the rythmn section.

On track eight, "Lights," Neal's guitar on the intro. is raw, just as Steve's vocals are, but Jonmathan's keyboard work on this one is a bit weak. Steve Perry's vocals are at their best on this one. It's one of the most soulful rockers I've heard.

On track nine, "Stay Awhile," Steve Perry's soul shines on this tune, but despite Neal's killer guitar work on previous tracks, it doesn't show here, and Jonathan Cain's keyboard work is a bit stronger, but not as strong as on his studio albums.

On track ten, "Open Arms," Jonathan Cain's keyboard is OK, but Steve Perry's vocals are at their best with a good rythmn section accompaniment. Neal's guitar work isn't bad either. I love the "roll" he does at the end.

On track eleven, "Send Her My Love," the live track is as great as the studio track. This tune has a "killer" driving rythmn that is awesome. Steve's vocals are great, and I love the way Steve says, "The same hotel, the same old room...Journey's on the road again." Steve Perry described this tune as "cinematic."

On track twelve, "Still They Ride," Steve has great vocals, but other than that, I think that the studio track, on "Escape," is better. This live rendition has OK piano, but he has a lot of soul and good guitar.

The thirteenth track, "Stone In Love," is just as great, if not better, live than it is on the studio track. It has great guitar and "Killer" vocals from Stevo as usual. I like Neal's guitar riff at the end. It sounds like a siren.

On track fourteen, "Escape," I like Neal's guitar intro., but other than that, the tune is OK. It has good vocals, good guitar and good piano. It's loose like a jam.

On track fifteen, "Line Of Fire," the rythmn is heartstopping. I really love Neal's guitar, Jonathan's keybard work, Steve Perry's vocal's and Steve Smith's drumming; although, I liked the "Captured" rendition of this tune I heard on the "Essential" disk. Great cannon firing for the gunshot though. I also loved Steve Smith's drum roll at the end and Steve Perry's "whew ooo!"

And for the last tune, number sixteen, "Wheel In The Sky," I really like Neal's guitar intro. along with Steve Perry's vocals and Steve Smith's drumming. The audience participation is great, too.

Overall, a good live album, and despite the fact that Jonathan Cain, the greatest piano player, doesn't appear on the "Captured" album, it seems to me that "Captured is a "tighter" performance. But, depite that, this lineup (Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, and Steve Smith) is Journey at its best time...now and forever.
