My biggest news this time round is that I have two new kittens. They arrived two months ago as handled ferrals from the WITS university campus. GADGET (formerly Georgina) is a tortie female and DIDGIT (formerly Widget) is a ginger tom (or should I say ex-tom). Both have been snipped and Gadget got to wear a buster collar for 12 days as I don't trust her not to pull her stitches out herself! (Not that I don't appreciate the help, it's her timing that's a little skew). They've been home 8 weeks and yet I can't imagine my life without them: sleeping on my bed, yowling for food or pouncing on anything that moves! They've both been microchipped and Program injected for fleas - not that they have mind you - I don't want any either! Once I've installed the cat flap they can go out and explore the world that is the complex. Gadget is the lively bossy one and Didgit the quiet retiring one (actually he spent the first 4 days at home hiding under my spare room bed). Both love snuggling on my bed at night!

Work is going well, with the days getting busier every nown and again. The building extentions should start end August to be finished by the december madness that happens every year (here's hoping). I signed my contract at the end of July and am now officially permanent staff! I get on well with everyone (that's not to say we don't have our differences) and yet have the pleasure of no responsibility for the financial side of life.

Talking of finances, I have been a bad girl - I went out and bought 15 new videos/movies incl Patch Adams, Charlies Angels, Zorro, Coyote Ugly, Sliding Doors and The Truman Show. (That's not to mention the 35 videos already on my shelf) Now I'm broke until pay day! It's fun though and I watch more videos than TV at the moment.

The SAVA meetings once a month have been prattling on. I collect 2 points every meeting, so I guess it's worth it as I need 50/year to remain officially "curent" with vet science. The really nice thing is the social side and meeting up with collegues that you normally wouldn't see. The grapevine is well developed too, so you even hear about those that are not present!

Can you believe that the UK taxman has given me some money back - so the house loan gets a bit more paid off!

Mom flew up from Cape Town for a quick visit at the end of July! It was lovely to do all the girly things like: the shop until you drop thing and the chat over coffe for hours thing!

I have a confession to make: I'm struggling with the whole housework thing! I manage to keep the bathroom and kitchen fairly clean but the rest of the house is a mess. It might have something to do with little 4 pawed creatures that leave a trail of beautiful paw prints everywhere they go - esp after swimming in the water bowel. The washing only gets done when the toybox is so full I can't get anything more in and the sink is full of dishes unti I run out of teaspoons!!

This past weekend has been really great for visiting: Mia + 2 frineds flew in friday night on a stopover before going to Tanzania, so we spent the evening chatting and generally chatching up on each others lives. I also met up with Alison - a friend from my university days. Her two boys have grown up soooo fast: Jessie is soon 6 and Eran is three!

Well, the local rugby season is in full swing, so in defense I've picked WP (Western Province - blue and white stripped jerseys) as my team. Unfortunetly they lost to the sharks yeaterday (by a smigine I might add) so I'm not off to a good start! I'm loosing my football/soccer know-how as the premeirship become a distant memory and need to pick up all the rugby knowledge necesary to survive in a ruby-crazed society! And I've only been back 5 months! I just gratefull that crickiet: that wonderful gentleman's game is timeless and changes little from year to year!

That's all for now, so toodle-do 'till next time,
Pauline

PS this is just in case you dont get my regular emails!
