In reply to: I saw it and considered its purchase when it was originaly advertised 's message, "Absolutely ...I have pictures of it before it was restored" on 08:34:09 07/17/02 Wed

I have never in my life seen such a bunch of crap over a car, most of it posted by people who aren't even prospective buyers. You want an expert on the car? You got it, ME! I owned the car before, I'm the one that bought it out of Santa Barbara, Ca. Was it a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's car? YES! Was it a CHP-spec, CHP bid car? YES! Was it ever in service with the CHP before going to the county? No one knows, unless of course you have access to records dating back to 1970-something that would tell if San Luis Obispo County bought their cars new or used. If someone was to put it back to CHP-livery specs, would it be incorrect? I would say not, and I am a purist. Would it be more documentable to mark it and outfit it in the livery of San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Dept.? YES, By all means! Plus, who in the hell wants another CHP car, no offense to those who own them, but haven't we all seen enough CHP cars? I mean they're cool but if you can have something different, and documented, why not? This is a great car and someone should buy it before Mr. Gaffney turns it into a tow vehicle. The hard parts done, all that's left is the fun stuff! Man, if I could have bought my current project at this stage of the restoration, I'd be done by now (not to mention, I would've spent a lot less money!).

Chances that it was a CHP car could be found by looking on the drivers door. It could have a 4 digit # usually written with a pen like those wrecking yard people use to mark parts. It would probably show thru the later added paint(s).Look above or below the VIN sticker or plate on the DOOR.RJ00:38:18 09/05/02 Thu
