I think you mean Bordatella (kennel cough)...but thanks, I needed that chuckle. I am not a fan of giving the Bordatella shot or nasal spray vaccine. It only covers a few of the strains of Bordatella and must be repeated every 6 months to be effective against those strains. In many cases, it can actually cause your dog to become sick with KC. Since KC is so easily treatable in adult dogs, I believe it to be a totally unnecessary vaccination. Now, having said all that, most groomers, boarding facilities, doggy daycare facilities do require that their clients have this vaccine.

I can tell you that none of my dogs get the Bordatella vaccination. Over the years I have brought in several shelter dogs with active Kennel Cough and none of my dogs ever came down with KC. KC is definitely something to be concerned about in puppies, but with adult dogs many times they don't even give antibiotics, they just have you give Robitussin to help control the cough while the KC runs its course.

If it were me, before I opted for the vaccine, I would check to see if I could find a groomer willing to come to my home to do the grooming (watch your local Craigslist, many in-home groomers advertise their services on Craigslist).

One more thing, if your dog is not 100% healthy, do not vaccinate. There are many vets out there who simply vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate....one NEVER vaccinates an immune compromised dog, nor do I vaccinate when dogs are already under stress. I currently have a 11 wk old foster pup who was spayed on Tuesday, the vet wanted to go ahead and vaccinate her at the time of the spay and I refused. While she is due for her boosters in another week, I chose to have those given at the time her stitches are removed as opposed to while her body was under stress from the spay surgery.

That probably wasn't much help to you, and I want to stress this is MY personal opinion and I'm sure there are others that will totally disagree with me. I simply am not a fan of the myriad of vaccinations that vets want to pump into our dogs and choose to follow Dr. Dodd's vaccination protocols.
