I understand how difficult it is to handle a d.w.i. (dog with issues). We have all special needs animals and spend a lot of time working with a local rescue group. Please chedk the following website: http://www.nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html
there are some tips and resources that you may find helpful. When looking for a trainer in your area, ask your vet, ask friends and go meet the trainer first - you need to feel comfortable for your dog to succeed. We drive 30 miles to a training facility because I feel I get what we need (we probably pass well over a dozen on the way). Use treats, small and soft, and try finding a book called "the other end of the leash" which is extremely helpful in understanding canine behavior as well as our interactions. good luck and hang in there - I can't even tell you how rewarding it will be in the long run.
