My husband and I rescued a young Chinese Crested (Ruby)last year from a very bad situation. We planned to foster her until we found her an appropriate home. Shortly after we rescued her she was diagnosed with follicular dysplasia. We found it impossible to find her a home after disclosing her special needs (the cost of treatment averages $200/month and quite possibly for the rest of her life). She quickly became part of our family and we are fully committed to caring for her forever. Her condition is quite serious and has never gone away despite treatment. After many tests (which included seeking the advice of veterinary dermatologists) the only solution was continuous antibiotics, bi-weekly medicated baths and a special diet. She has been on daily antiobiotics (Zeniquin) for over a year now. Despite diligently following the direction of the veterinarians she still suffers from terrible skin problems. She has large cysts which are infected and raw. Like a severe form of acne all over her body. My question is whether any of you have experienced this problem with any of your Chinese Cresteds and if so, do you have any additional ideas that may help? She's a great little dog and we want her to be as comfortable as possible and are willing to do whatever it takes to help her. Thanks in advance for your advice.
