First, thanks so much for taking in this boy. Sounds like he came from a mill-type situation and the whole outside world is new & scary. I, personally, would try natural, homeopathic remedies before jumping to drugs. Homeopets makes a fabulous product called Anxiety, you can place the drops directly on the tongue for immediate effect and place them in his water bowl to keep him on a nice even keel.

As for pottying issues, this is not uncommon, especially in mill dogs who have had very little human interaction. Yes, get him neutered as soon as possible, this will help with the marking. What this boy needs most is love, understanding, and a gentle approach. You are going to have to win his trust, most likely all human interaction he has had was not a positive thing...hence, the submissive urination and defecation. Just take things very slow with him. Most likely the crate is a nice, safe & reassuring place for him so crating him when you're away is adviseable.

I think taking him to work with you is an awesome idea. Just let him do things in his own time...each dog copes with things in their own way, some mill dogs flourish almost instantly once removed from the mill, others take many months to come around...some are never very trusting, but will bond with one person.

THanks again and please keep us updated.
