Your story reminded me of our Chinese restaurant we go to all the time. We know the owner fairly well so one day after collecting the broken fortune cookies for Chyna I made a remark to her that I thought it was pretty funny that Chyna's favorite treat is a chinese fortune cookie since she's a chinese crested. She thought that was funny so now she collects all the broken cookies that come in the bags for my cresties. I guess it is a form of nationality or something. LOL

I get that she feels like skin all the time too. No duh! That and she feels like leather (hmmm isn't that skin too? Here's your sign right). That and they look like rats. I'm no expert on rats but pretty sure a grown crestie looks nothing like a rat, now when they are first born I can see that but full grown with a crest? Must be an exotic breed of rats I don't know about.
