Hi Tanya
Hmmmm, could be that we are related somehow, thru our relations? 'Cause mine can't be trained either!!!
Okay, just letting you know, I sooo know where you are coming from!!!

As for the collars, the clinic I work at does rent out the Citronella collars, and sells them. Clients are required to hear about training techniques and as a last resort, to use the Citronella collars (not because the collars are bad, but clients get a little bent out of shape when they find that ANY collar will require some re-training). We have had really good luck with them. I agree that the shock collars would be too harsh, but would still try to get your relatives to give the old shaker can deterant, a try too. Make sure you get a refill can of citronella when you get the collar, a dog that barks alot is going to go right thru the first fill pretty quick. Also, I think those collars use a different battery, so you might check where you can get one, if the one the collar comes with ends up needing replaced.

The only sonic trainer I have had experiance with was a hand held. The dogs barked and you pushed the button. It worked really well on my in-laws Ital. Greys. but you had to have it handy for the correction.

Good luck with the dogs. It is great that you are trying to keep them.
Micheale
