Well, we're thrilled you found us and that our old posts could be of help.

As for Spike, it depends on your vet. Some will and do advocate pediatric spay/neuters, others will not do the surgery prior to 6 mo. of age. First thing to consider is has SPike's testicles dropped? If so, that makes the surgery a LOT easier. If your vet will do the neuter now (and his testicles have descended), I would do it now. I got my male done at just over 5 months old. He had just started to hike his leg and after 3-4 days of him hiking his leg on my female while she was mid-squat, I called my vet and said "you're doing him NOW before this marking thing gets any worse. It really does depend on the dog tho, some may never show that marking behavior, especially since you got him as a pup.
