Subject: Chinese Crested Questions

Hello,

I am interested in the Hairless Chinese Crested Dog and I was wondering how they typically interact with other animals? What are some typical medical conditions associated with the breed? (I've read about some conditions, but am trying to do as much research as possible before adopting one) I am hoping my fiance will let me adopt one of these sweet angels for Christmas this year. I wish I could adopt sooner, but we have wedding plans for this summer (July 22!) and might be moving shortly after the wedding if we find an affordable place. (I'm hoping to finally stop living in an apartment and go for a house!)

We currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 cats and one dog, a 7yr old Yellow Lab/Great Pyrenese Mix. I'm mostly concerned with how the little Chinese Crested would react to my larger dog. My dog has always been an "only child" but she plays nice with other dogs in the neighborhood. She gets so happy when she's with other dogs. My dog will chase our cats but only when they run, and she has never once tried to hurt the cats.

We have no yard, so I walk my dog to go potty at least twice a day. I know that being a smaller breed, the Chinese Crested will need to go out more often so I'm thinking I can bring her to work with me if well-behaved in a kennel. I could keep her near my desk while I work. (Another employee does that sometimes when his wife goes out of town - She works from home.)

Also, we live in Vermont - How are the Hairless in cold weather? I would definitly buy doggie-clothes, sweaters, jackets, etc, but would she do ok in Vermont's harsh winters? (I have this funny picture in my mind of me walking my dog on a leash and carrying the Crested with me, and when I set her down to go potty she would just sink right into the snow!)

We have a very loving home, and I absolutely have my heart set on owning a Chinese Crested. I've recently purchased a book on Amazon.com about caring for the breed, so I hope there will be a lot of good information in it.

Since I already know that I would love to work a Crested, should I start to fill-out an application now to adopt a Crested this winter? Or should I wait to see if we move before starting that process?

Many thanks in advance,
Renée
