If she is malnourished/underweight, that in & of itself can be the cause of a heart murmer. See if you can get her former vet's number so you can call & ask when she was last seen. If it's been more than a year and she's not been on any type of dewormer, I'd start there.

When I adopted my first CC she was severely underweight and we, too, were told she had a heart murmer. Once we put some weight on her (5 lbs in about 7 weeks) the murmer was no longer detectable.
