To kick off the Hanlon Forum, here is what we have on our Hanlon family from Dungloe and surrounds, County Donegal, Ireland.
There is a webpage for our family (with photos) at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hanlon/our-hanlons/hanlonfamily-1.htm
Our oldest ancestor is Andrew Hanlon (born c. 1780) who came from the Dungloe area - we have leads that point towards Meenabolligan, Tubberkeen or possibly the islands (Rutland or Inishfree). We know from the 1799 Protestant Survey of Templecrone Parish that he was not alone: the Hanlons were well established all over the villages around Dungloe.
ANDREW HANLON, born about 1780 had a son:
WILLIAM HANLON, born about 1805 married Mary (surname unknown) and raised a family of at least five children in Mullaghduff, between Kincasslagh and Annagry, County Donegal:
1. ANDREW "Mor" HANLON, born between 1833-1840 lived in Mullaghduff, married Sile Gallagher c. 1861. Had 8 children (see separate posting for Andrew)
2. ANN HANLON, born about 1835, settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA and married Matthew Long there.
3. FANNY HANLON (dates unknown)
4. WILLIAM HANLON (dates unknown)
5. HUGH HANLON, born 17 Dec 1846, immigrated Pittsburgh, PA where he married Catherine Cunningham 24 Jun 1869. Raised a family of 11 children. (see separate posting for Hugh)
