There seems to be little trafic in this MB, but I
am going to post this in case somebody runs into
these problems in the future.
I have been complaining a lot lately about sound
freezing the computer and overheating. I think I
found out what was wrong. I got the computer with
a Xircom RealPort PCMCIA card that was causing the
computer to run very hot. I took the card out, booted
up and the computer runs much cooler. The sound freezes
still occured. I had Rain and CPUidle both running, and
I noticed that the fan was never on. I wanted it on all
the time, so I removed to cpu coolers and things are a
lot better! You see, the coolers act on the cpu, so it is
cooler and the fan never kicks in. But I belive the
problem was from an overheated motherboard. With the
coolers out, the fan kicks in and the board is cooler,
so no more freezes (well, it takes a few hours to get
failures, like short hung ups or badly garbled sound ).
I hope this saves some headaches to somebody someday.
Well, at least I learned a bit about win98 troubleshooting.
