I also purchased a battery for my Vivante XL. When it arrived I conditioned the battery using LEARN in the BIOS. I haven't had any problems with it.

What do you mean by " Unfortunately I was unable to get the computer to
recognize the battery?" Does this mean that the battery does not power the computer or that Windows is not reflecting a full charge? Also, when you pull the battery out and push the battery charge indicator how many LEDs light up? If you're not showing a full charge perhaps windows is not reporting it correctly. Maybe a 3rd party battery guage software if this is the case.

You indicated that you ran the Learning utility 8-10 times/battery. My experience with this utility was that it took more than 8 hours to complete. Does this mean you've spent over 130 hours with these 2 batteries? If you haven't then you've probably done something wrong.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
