I've been limping along with a bad Cmos battery until I get a chance to send my Vivante XL to ASE. Like Amy I get a blank screen when I try to boot. To get the machine started I remove all attachments - in my case usb mouse, pcmcia modem, and power supply. I push the power button on and if I don't see the screen flash right away (a white blink on the black Dos screen), I turn the power button off. Wait a bit then repeat. When you get the flash, you know the machine will finally boot. While it boots I plug in the mouse and power supply. After it boots I push in the modem. Once booted the screen is fine and the machine works normally but without the correct date. It will eventually freeze up, sometimes after minutes, usually after hours. Save early and often.
