Subject: So let's get with the tech support...

Ok guys, here's a question. I just recently sent in my vivante SE to fix a bad connection between my ac adapter and the laptop. After I got it back, I noticed that my BIOS had been updated. Being ever so curious I emailed Transmonde (RIP) and was told that the new BIOS didn't do anything but make my machine Y2K compliant. Which is fine for me (assuming it works), but what about anyone who *doesn't* have the Y2K compliant BIOS?

On a more personal note, one of the major reasons I went with Transmonde in the first place was the upgradable processor. After some brief looking, I noticed that there are vendors out there who do sell mobile processors, so that's not an issue. However, what's the difference between mmc1 and mmc2? which one does the vivante use? More importantly, how fast a processor will my newly orphaned BIOS support? Is my BIOS in fact really orphaned?

All that being said, I think I'm now of the mind that if I'm stuck without tech support because my vendor up and died, I might just be better off not upgrading anything on my vivante, use it until it dies, and then move on to someone not quite as likely to dissappear anytime soon. I guess what that really means is that I'm now waiting on IBM's new 600 (or whatever comes after) with the 13.7 super high resolution TFT .

-Frank (who really do think that technolust will solve most of his problems :)
