"What was it like working with Julia Roberts?" Natalie asked Jena.
Jena had a thoughtful expression on her face before replying, "It was great, of course. She's really funny. Oh, but I was in totale awe of her. She loved it though, I could tell."
Natalie laughed. Hayden looked over at her, strangely mesmerized by the sound. He hadn't said much since they arrived in Kevin's hotel; his thoughts had stayed back in the elevator. He couldn't get Natalie out of his mind, no matter how hard he tried. She would touch his arm while she said something, or even do a little action such as catch his eye, and he would melt into a puddle, literally. Of course he'd always thought of Natalie as hot, who wouldn't? But that appreciation had turned into full fledged desire, and he wasn't sure when this transaction had occured.
"Hayden? Hayden?"
Hayden snapped to attention, realizing he had let himself stare a little too hard at Natalie. He turned to Jena with narrowed eyes. "What?" he snapped.
"Sorry, I just wanted to let you know that your drool is damaging Kevin's carpet," Jena said sweetly. She smiled at him and took a sip of her champaign.
Hayden felt his cheeks get hot, and he looked down to the floor. "I don't know what you mean," he mumbled a little unconvincingly. Natalie giggled, and she set a hand on his upper arm. This elicited a sharp intake of breath on Hayden's behalf, but she kept her hand firmly there.
"They're going to let reporters in," Jena said with a groan as she peered over Hayden's shoulder. "I hate those nasty people. Don't they have anything else to do with their life?"
"Oh, I know!" Natalie agreed. "You should hear some of the rumors they have going on about me. Apparently I'm expecting a child at the moment, and not just any child either; you see, George Lucas and I are having an affair."
Hayden snorted. "Do people actually believe these things?"
"You'd be surprised," Natalie said, nodding her head angrily. "They can come up with the most outrageous things, and the public will just eat it up. Wait a few months, Hayden, and you'll be in the limelight."
"I can't wait," Hayden cracked dryly. "Why are they letting reporters in here?"
"So that we can be on the cover of tomorrow's Time," Jena said, rolling her eyes. "I can't believe people are that shallow. This is supposed to be a *private* party."
"They're heading for us," Natalie hissed. "Just act natural. Maybe if we ignore them, they'll go away."
"Fat chance," Jena managed to get in before the woman reporter was within hearing distance. She walked straight up to them, and bright smiles were offered. The woman returned them, but the smile didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" she asked.
"Does it really matter? You'll ask us anyway," Jena said.
"You really don't like the press, do you?" Hayden asked.
Jena shrugged, slightly embarrassed. "I don't *dislike* them," she mumbled.
The woman reporter smirked. "Hold on just a second, I want my camera guy to get a shot of you." She peered closer at Natalie, and her eyes widened. "Natalie Portman, right? Oh, gods, this is going to get me noticed."
"I'm so happy for you," Natalie retorted with a sarcastic smile.
The woman ignored it, and motioned for a tall skinny guy with a video camera to come forward. He set down his equipment, and the three movie stars waited patiently for the interview to begin.
"Can we get this over with?" Natalie asked impatiently. "I'm getting tired."
Hayden raised his eyebrows at her in a slightly suggestive way. "You want me to drive you home, Nat?"
Natalie tilted her head, and her eyes were flashing with heated desire. "That would be great, Hayden. Thank you."
Hayden smiled softly, then turned back to the reporter. "You heard the lady. We want to go home so hurry up."
The woman glared at Hayden, then positioned her microphone. She cleared her throat meaningfully, then looked straight into the camera. "This is Tiffany Taylor, and I'm here at the after party of the world premiere of Life as a House, a movie starring Kevin Kline. I have two of the young actors from the movie, and a special guest ready for an interview about their own, personal lives."
Hayden rolled his eyes obviously, and cracked a smile at the camera, hoping that it caught his actions. Tiffany didn't seem to notice. She smiled endearingly once more, then stepped away from the shot so that the three stars were standing together with bright smiles. "This is Jena Malone, Hayden Christensen, and Natalie Portman. You may have seen Jena in Stepmom with Julia Roberts. Hayden Christensen is a newcomer, but you may recognize him from publicity pictures for the newest Star Wars film in which he stars in. Natalie Portman is known for such movies as Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, Where the Heart Is, Anywhere but Here, and the upcoming Star Wars Episode II." Tiffany turned to Natalie meaningfully. "Tell me, what brings you here tonight?"
Natalie smiled nervously. "Hayden and I are really good friends, and I thought I'd surprise him by showing up. Everyone from Episode II is still really close."
Tiffany raised her eyebrows. "Ah. Have you and Hayden ever ventured into the land of more than friends?"
Natalie didn't bat an eyelash. "I don't like talking about my personal life, actually. I don't think it's any of your business."
"What she's trying to say is that, no, we never had an offscreen relationship," Hayden said more politely.
Tiffany seemed disappointed by this. "Now I saw this movie, and I noticed that yours and Jena's characters were close, and you even did a few love scenes. How did you feel about that?"
"It was definately weird," Hayden confirmed, laughing a little for emphasis. "I've never been paid to make out with hot girls before."
Jena hit Hayden playfully. "Shut up!" she laughed. "I didn't mind doing that type of scene all too much, but my mother sure did. Oh, you should have heard her, she was screaming in my ear that I need to ask God for forgiveness of my sins."
Tiffany pretended to laugh along, but it was obvious that she was faking it. She turned to Natalie again. "You're a student at a prestigious college, right?"
"I am," Natalie said reluctantly.
"Do you find that acting gets in the way of your school life?"
"Definately," Natalie answered unhesitantly. "It's hard to study on a set." She cast Hayden a quick glance. "Especially when certain people are convincing you to go clubbing with them every night."
"You know you loved it," Hayden said. "You may not be able to tell, but Nat is one of the most serious people I know. It's hard to get her to let loose, but when she does she can be a real party animal."
Natalie made a soft noise of annoyance. "I hope you don't mind," she said to Tiffany, "but I'm actually getting tired. I think I'll be heading home soon."
Hayden put a hand on Natalie's shoulder. "We'll see you later, Jen, okay?"
Jena nodded eagerly and waved. She was looking forward to finishing the interview by herself. "Have fun, you guys."
"Doing what?" Hayden asked. "Driving to my hotel room?"
Jena winked. "Have fun doing whatever you result in doing."
Hayden flicked her off in response. Jena laughed as he turned to leave the apartment with his arm around Natalie's back. "I hope that doesn't show up on the morning news," he whispered truthfully to Natalie.
"I hope none of it does," Natalie said. She opened the door, and they headed for the elevator. "I hate doing interviews, especially with people like that woman. She didn't give a damn about any of us."
"Are they supposed to?" Hayden pointed out gently.
Natalie sighed. "You're right. I just can't stand the news crew. I don't mind doing an occasional magazine here and there -- those are really fun -- but I hate being put on the spot. I've made it clear time and again that I don't reveal details of my personal life, why can't people accep that?"
"The elevator's here," Hayden said. He was surprised to find his voice huskier than was normal. He cleared it, and he and Natalie stepped inside. As it had earlier, the tension thickened the moment the doors shut. This time Hayden tried to keep his distance from Natalie.
"Uh . . . you have somewhere to stay?" Hayden asked.
Natalie shook her head. "I was going to get a hotel room wherever you were staying," she said. "I'm leaving tomorrow anyway. Maybe I could just crash on a couch or something."
Hayden nodded, his muscles tensing. Sharing a hotel room with Natalie would not be a good way to get rid of his earlier images from the elevator. He could feel her pressed against him, and he closed his eyes, letting himself drown in the memories.
"Hayden, we're here," Natalie said, breaking his thoughts. He blushed and stepped out of the elevator with her. He had to stop getting caught in his thoughts or people would deem him clinically insane.
It took about ten minutes for the valet to arrive, and Hayden felt the tension increasing with each second. It was crazy, and he knew it, but he was being driven by something stronger than he could fight. In a few hours everything had changed between Natalie and him. Whatever it was, though, she seemed to unaffected.
The blue bug came rolling in front of the hotel, and he tipped the nice valet before climbing into the driver's seat. Natalie's door shut beside him, and he took off, trying to stay quiet. He wanted Natalie to say something first; he wanted to know what was going through her mind.
Unfortunately, the hotel wasn't that far away from Kevin's, so they arrived without speaking a word. Hayden noticed, though, that Natalie was giving him intense looks towards the end of the ride. Whatever was going on had finally caught up to her.
It was relatively easy to get up to his hotel room, which wasn't that high up, and he opened the door for Natalie. She eyed the open space awkwardly, and stayed in the doorway. Hayden shrugged and moved past her. He slipped out of his jacket, glad to be rid of the itchy fabric. Then he began to untuck his shirt.
"What are you doing?" Natalie demanded, looking him up and down with fear in her eyes.
Hayden turned around and arched one eyebrow. "I'm getting more comfortable. Don't worry, I won't strip down in front of you." He began to unbutton the shirt, and felt a small bit of satisfaction at the look on Natalie's face. Maybe she could get up close and personal with his extremely nice chest she lavished on about. "You can turn on the TV or something, you know."
Natalie looked blankly up at him, then seemed to snap back to attention. She nodded more times than necessary, and Hayden wondered if she could get whiplash from the jerky movements. She pointed to the beds. "Which one do you want?"
"The right one," Hayden answered unhesitantly. "I always have to sleep on the right side, it's an issue for me."
Natalie snorted as if to say he wasn't exactly the sanest person she knew, then she plopped herself on the left bed, landing backwards and laughing as the springs vibrated at her action. Hayden stopped what he was doing and watched her. She had her hands behind her body, holding her upper body upwards, and it struck Hayden right then and there that she had the most beautiful smile in the world. She seemed to get uncomfortable in his gaze and turned on the TV. Hayden shook his thoughts away and turned to the dresser to dig for some clothes for her to wear. It was a high doubt that she could sleep in the dress she had on, it looked pretty uncomfortable.
"Nat," Hayden began nervously. He ran a hand through his hair, and when she looked up at him he caught her eye deftly. It was scary; he felt as if everything around him was melting, and the only thing that existed was Natalie. Natalie his *friend*, his *co-worker*, he reminded himself desperately. Hadn't he always said he wouldn't date an actress? But Natalie didn't want to be an actress. She was smart, she went to Harvard for God's sake!
Hayden listened to the second voice in his head, and he took the few steps to the right bed. Natalie sat up on her knees and met him halfway. Her hand went to his neck, and she pulled him down to her level so that their lips could meet in a passion more intense than anything Hayden had ever experienced before. His hands moved to her waist and pulled her lower body tight against his, letting her know that this was more than just a playful kiss, that he had to have her just as he had to have oxygen.
Natalie whimpered slightly, and her hands trailed down to his shirt where a few buttons were still done. She quickly ripped the shirt, too impatient to try undoing them, and he moved his arms so she could slip it off easier.
Hayden ripped his lips away from hers and began to attack her neck, trailing a blaze of fire on her skin with wet kisses. He sucked slightly on her color bone, and her hands threaded in his hair. He let his hand move to the pack of her dress, wanting to unzip it, but his hand froze halfway. This was going too far. Natalie was his friend, only his friend.
Natalie sensed his apprehension, and she moved her lips to his ear. "I want you, Hayden, okay? This is right; forget everything tonight."
Hayden moved his head so that he was facing her. "Are you sure?" he asked, his voice wavering as he studied her eyes.
Natalie nodded and swallowed. "I never do anything I'm not sure about," she said, her voice hoarse and low.
Hayden nodded and pulled the zipper the rest of the way down.

The next morning Hayden woke slowly, feeling his muscles tighten from the activities of the night before. He hadn't gotten much sleep, and it was nearly noon by the time he opened his eyes. His hand trailed to the side of the bed, but he only found empty sheets. He sat up suddenly, worried. The room was empty. He looked once at the bathroom door, but there was no water running.
Hayden hit himself on the head. What an idiot he'd been! She was obviously creeped out; she had left without even a good bye. His eyes searched the room for a note, but the search was in vain. He had scared Natalie off because he couldn't get his stupid hormones under control.
Hayden groaned and fell backwards on the bed. Maybe he could just forget about it, forget about her. He liked this idea a lot. Once more he sat up, and he turned on the TV, not caring where it landed, wanting to distract himself. He would call Natalie soon, when he could be sure that she was back at home.
Yeah, he'd call her.

AN: I hope that you guys liked it and didn't think it was too gross since it's about the actors and not the characters. I have the third chapter halfway written already. Remember to review by replying. It will be greatly appreciated.
