Subject: Oswalf F Pennington

I have been trying to find out more about O F Pennington since aquiring a watercolour of his some years ago of the clipper 'Romanoff' the first all iron clipper, built with increased rig to compensate for the weight. The ship figures in Lubcocks books on clippers and was in the top ten performers for ten years (from memory) I will 'e' mail a copy of the picture to the Rev Jasper green Pennington if requested. There are two monochrome paintings (men working aloft on a big sailing ship)of his in the Aberdeen Maritime Museum Scotland and slides can be purchased I believe. At the time I contacted them they had no biogrqaphical information on him.

What kind of ship was HMS Rugby? What actions led to the award of DSO. My paternal grandfather came from Wigan in Lancashire as far as I know. From where did OFP family come? I did live in Southport when I was a small boy 1947 to 1950.

I am a director of Sunderland Maritime Heritage which is trying to encourage Sunderland to give a good home to the composite clipper 'City of Adelaide'(HMS Carrick) built Sunderland in 1864 for passenger service to Adelaide australia presently lying in Irvine Scotland web site www.sunderlandmaritimeheritage.com
