Subject: Fanfic Trends

Ever notice that certain fics tend to fit a certain trend? They allow themselves to be neatly catagorized and analyzed from a distance. Some of the trends I have spotted recently are as Follows.

Crossovers:

Buffy/DBZ - Ok, I'll admit that I actually started this trend...I'm not happy about it. these stories tend to follow the flow of a DBZ episode...in case you don't know, that's a big downward step.

Buffy/WWE - I'll admit that this is an interesting premise, but I've yet to see a good complete one. So far, I've seen lots of Projection onto Willow, haveing her be rather OOC and falling for a wrestler (Usually a Hardy). Sometimes, it has Buffy characters sign on, at least temporarily. Best I've seen so far (if I can find it again) had Willow be The Undertaker's Neice. The Interaction between those two was worth treading through the OOC moments.

Buffy/Lord of the Rings - For some people, they think that seeing the movies means that they understand Tolkien...I admit to trying to do this, but after reading "The Hobbit" and "The Two Towers" I realized " I Can't write in Old English!" Neither can most of the authors who write this type of story. and it suffers for it. I've only seen 1 story that manages to be passable, but it suffers from the flaws of Shippy-ness and not elaborating certain scenes (HOW CAN YOU GLOSS OVER THE BALROG SEQUENCE!!!??? HOOWWW!???!!!)

End Rant for now...
