Subject: Making a long, full chiffon skirt

Need some advice...I'm not a seamstress by any stretch but have basic sewing skills and trying to learn how to do some of my daughter's pageant outifts (because I'm also not wealthy, lol!). Anyway, thanks to some of the prev. posts, I mostly conquered a full short skirt(by using the full circle, 'donut' approach someone posted) this w/e; my question is how do you cut out a full long skirt? No material I've seen is wide enough to cut a full circle, so do you do panels? or just front and back? So there are not seams showing, or at least not obvious. Also, how many layers on average would you have?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
