I had the pleasure of meeting River Phoenix through the business several times many years ago and I have to say he was a very sweet child and later a similarly sweet man. Alas for too short a time. He always had time for anyone who wanted to speak with him and would have very involved and beautiful conversations. He talked a lot about the environment and how it was being destroyed. I'll always remember what a bright soul he was.
I have met his younger brother a few times since his recent success in Gladiator but I'm sorry to say I was very disappointed. Like everyone I expected him to be a younger version of River but Joaquin is very much more materialistic and Hollywood. I was not impressed by his personality. He has no time for fans - totally the opposite of River who had time for everybody.
They are both excellent on screen however different in personality.
