Subject: WHO is Carl Craig? bio.....Detroit Techno God Father>?

Carl Craig's name is synonymous with both Detroit & techno. One of the
scenes originators, Carl continues to re-define and experiment with this
ever-evolving genre. You'd be hard pressed to find a respected club in any
country where Carl hasn't dj'ed or where his own label Planet E recordings
aren't fervently collected. Rolling Stone Magazine selected him as 24th on
their "Top 40 Influential Musicians of 2001."

'The Workout' is Carl's first project for React and reflects his originality
as a DJ and producer. In his words, "I hope when you press play you will
feel a complete sense of elation. I carefully picked music that is part of
my regular set list as well as songs that I feel are interesting... I wanted
to make sure that this compact disc would be unique so I included special
mixes and edits that have not been available until now as well as music
which is due for release around the time of or after the release of this
project." Exclusive & unreleased tracks include Recloose 'Ain't Changin'
(C's Dark Soul Update), Jah Wobble & Bill Laswell 'Alsema Dub' (C's
Spiritual Dub), Carl Craig's own 'Experimento', Tres Demented 'Demented
Drums'& Lacksidaisycal 'It's Over'.

Mixed live in a studio in Detroit, Carl's main objective was to mix these
amazing tracks and achieve a "sonic warmth and purity" which meant avoiding
"a digital mixer like the plague." Although he was a child of the 70s
burgeoning technological age & deeply influenced by the industrial landscape
of Detroit, Carl manages to ignite the emotive side of digital music. His
love of jazz musicians Sun Ra and Miles Davis and the early influence of
local Detroit label Motown's golden era appear in the soulful-ness that
emerges from the beats and rhythms in tracks like Todd Sines & Natacha Bell
'Come Closer' (C2 remix), GusGus 'Your Moves Are Mine', Jah Wobble & Bill
Laswell 'Alsema Dub' (C's Spiritual Dub) and Anthony Shakir's 'Sunrise'.
When Craig began to experiment with making music, he made beats as his
natural form of expression which carries over into his unique dj sets.
"That's my African heritage coming out," Craig says. "Much of my music
contains dominant rhythms, whether it's drums or percussion or whatever. But
really I try to create those rhythms using all elements of the music - the
melodies, harmonies, etc."
