"ェAァLァミ" is mandatory, it is working for country, but not voluntary. If "ェAァLァミ" is a way to work for country, then paying taxes should also be another way.

Does work for country improve the country for sure? Doubtful. The economic environment and the ability to compete are probably the most determining factors. Take South Korea for example, the people's help to government does help, but the help and unity are probably not the reason of recovery.

You are right though. The "perfectly selfish" economic man is just a theory. In reality, things always go differently from theory. This, I admit that I messed up theory and reality.

HK is another case. HK citizens created a giant sum of money for the gov't during the 90's. Now that sum of money is already half way to nothingness. That also means their contribution to the government is wasted. Can they not complain about government? HK citizens gave gov't lots of things, now HK is in trouble, gov't should return a little favor to HK.

Lastly, asking government for help when in deep trouble is necessary. We should not despise those people and ask them "did you do anything to gov't before?" We all contribute to gov't in many ways. Helping those in trouble is part of gov't's job, and should not use Kennedy's quote to prevent people from asking gov't's help. Kennedy created that quote when US economy was in trouble and gov't was out of money. In another words, that quote is for gov't to reduce its spending.
