Economics is a science studying human daily behaviour. It is all a matter of demand and supply. The three basic economic questions, ‘what to produce, how to produce, and for whom to produce’ are the most important questions in the human world. As a human being, how could I not be interested in it? I like reading, I read nearly every type of book. When I was reading some books about economics, I found economics to be very interesting. Then I decided that I am going to study economics in the future. Like other science subjects, economics also requires mathematical skills, which I am confident that I have mastered well. Economics is my first and only choice.

In one of the past summer holidays, I worked as a temporary clerk in a very small firm, but actually I was a handy man. One day, I went to the bank, coincidently the bank computer system went down. Dozens of people lined up in front of the desk waiting for the computer system to recover. While I was waiting there, I wondered why so many people were willing to wait there. I suddenly realized that it was a problem associated with economics and there are many economic issues surrounding us.

At school, I am a house-prefect; this position trained me to be more responsible. I was a Scout before I came to the UK and I was the patrol leader of my pack. Both positions trained me to be a courageous, responsible and caring person. As a Scout, I attended many different training courses both in Scout techniques and leadership. I learn many things in these two positions. I leant how to work and communicate with others. I love singing, so I joined the school choir ever since I was at my previous school. Now, I sing as a tenor in the Dean Close School Choir. Swimming is my favorite sport. I swim regularly nearly every day, though I am not a very fast swimmer.

In my leisure time, I spend most time on books and computers. I connect to the Internet to read news and joined web-discussion-groups for discussions on current issues. When I was five, I heard someone said, “University students are the conscience of society”. On holidays, I usually do model building with commercial model kits. There is a lot of fun to build something from just plastics. Models teach me many things, such as patience and care. I also work on my own web pages.

My merit is that I know myself well. I know the importance of reviewing what I have done wrong and done right. Someone said, ‘Knowing yourself well is already half-way to success’. So I will never lie to myself. I know economics is the most suitable subject area for myself and I can do well in it.
