There isn't much you can say to them. But you don't have to say anything at all really. Just be there for them and listen to them. You don't have to say anything profound to them at all.

Yes death is a shocker when it slaps you in the face like that. Too many of us can watch it from afar and never know what it is like to have a loved one die. I feel for you fate and will pray for you and your freind and family. That is actually something you can do too. It means a lot I guess.
