One key feature that drives the Barbie mytheme is her ubiquity, that is to say her availability. The molded plastic form, with its crude, four-point articulation, was never particularly credible or even pretty, but its easiness has made it an inevitable component in every hand-me-down toy collection.
Let's face it, everybody knows that Barbie is fast. That salacious toy has been debauched by the imaginings of children and their suitably-scaled male (and female--hell, even animal) dolls for decades. Dressing her in sackcloth changes nothing. You can stick feathers in her butt, but that won't make her a chicken. It'll just be another kink.
