...The last few discussions on the logical integrity of Xianity and a reflection on my previous life as a fundie have made me come to the following:

Most fundies and pastors view the Bible as a written word version of idols; the relative handful of scripture commonly quoted and used for everything from faith affirmation to demon casting to shamanistic balms for real-life problems. Indeed, most fundies and xtians in general seem to believe that just because they possess a bahbul and go to a church to have a pastor read it back to them that they understand it. It is loosely akin to the cargo cults that sprang up across the Pacific during WW2 when America established bases on every island and made contact with the natives; sure they "copied" the forms of the aircraft and radios and runways but without an understanding of what they were and why they worked all the Natives made were idols. Even when shown after the war what they were, how they worked and why they couldn't see beyond the mental horizons they needed to to understand, and attributed it all to "magic", and that their bamboo and fern leaf radios and planes would work just like theirs if they just applied enough faith.

Xianity is like that I think. You have the Bible-66 texts of various antiquity and dubiousness made into a incoherent whole by a artifice of faith in a sunday school God n Jeezus who would only want us to prance around in Heaven in a green field amongst the sheep and the lions and the mountains of gold without even once stepping in any lion shit. Yet even a cursory objective analysis of those 66 texts reveal at best a rapacious, sadistic monster who is anything but all powerful and onipotent, who uses lies, steals from other mythologies, and can only get His faithful to do His Will by threat of force. Even sweet cuddly Jesus spurns helping Gentiles unless they humiliated themselves-which was also called faith. And it is by that faith-fueled by a fear of eternal hellfire-that drive xtians to embrace that religion in a Stockholm Syndrome frenzy.

That faith is the glue that holds xtianity together-as soon as that faith's gone, so is xtianity.

And it's good to have you back OPB!
